In short

  • Yearbar is a yearly goal and habit tracker for the web, iPhone and Android.
  • Every goal gets a bar that races the calendar, so you always know your pace for the year.
  • It's made by John Limos, an independent developer based in the Philippines.
  • No ads, no selling data, and a free plan you can keep for as long as you like.

1. Who makes Yearbar

Yearbar is designed, built and run by John Limos, an independent developer in the Philippines. There's no big company or investors behind it: the person who writes the code also answers the support emails.

2. Why it exists

Most goal and habit apps judge you by today. They count days in a row, and one busy week turns weeks of effort into a zero. That zero is often the moment people quit, usually somewhere around February.

Yearbar looks at the whole year instead. Each goal has a bar and a marker showing where you'd be by now. Ahead? Enjoy it. A bit short? The app tells you how many days it takes to catch up, never that you failed. Streaks count weeks and come with freezes, so a missed week doesn't erase anything.

The idea behind it: the hard part of a goal isn't starting. It's what happens after a slip.

3. The research behind it

  • Habits take longer than 21 days, and one miss is fine. In a well-known study, a daily habit took a median of 66 days to feel automatic, and missing a single day didn't materially affect the process. That's why Yearbar's streaks count weeks. Lally et al., European Journal of Social Psychology, 2010.
  • Fresh starts help. People are more likely to take on a goal after a landmark like New Year's Day or the start of a month. Yearbar's "New month, fresh lap" card and catch-up screen use that. Dai, Milkman & Riis, Management Science, 2014.
  • Planning when beats planning to. Writing down the day and time you'll act makes follow-through more likely. That's why every goal has a check-in plan. Milkman et al., PNAS, 2011.

4. What we promise

  • No guilt. Yearbar never says "behind", "failed" or "streak lost".
  • Your data is yours. Without an account, your board stays on your device. With one, it's stored only to sync your devices. Details are in the privacy policy.
  • A real free plan. Up to 5 goals with check-ins, milestones and rewards, free for as long as you like. See pricing.
  • Leave any time. You can delete your account and everything in it from the app.
